Description

"The Lancaster area was, in its day, literally a Garden of Eden for the Native Americans, including the Cherokee, the Catawba, and the Waxhaw tribes. The arrival of Scots-Irish settlers, mostly from Lancaster, Pennsylvania, ushered in an era of drastic change. The newcomers named the area for their homelands in England, the region of the famous House of Lancaster that opposed the House of York in the legendary War of the Roses." City of Lancaster's Website

Today, Lancaster is a small town with an active community. At the Barr School, the Lindsay Pettus Greenway will eventually connect to downtown Lancaster. The sidewalk section from Barr School, past the Mt. Zion AME Zion Church to Main Street is a pleasant walk through the Red Rose City. There are interesting and frequent works of art particularly through Sculpure Park, beautiful benches and a small shops throughout the walk through downtown Lancaster. Grab a craft beer along the way at the Craft Beer Stand.
